German "konditorei" showcasing stunning cakes and jammy doughnuts.
Hahdough is the only dedicated German bakery in San Francisco, drawing long lines for handsome tortes and jammy doughnuts since opening in 2020. Baker and owner Ha Do was born in Vietnam and grew up in Germany, but it wasn’t until she moved to the Bay in her 30s, that she began to miss her favorite traditional pastries from back home. She started out with a stall at the farmers’ market, before setting up shop in NoPa, specifically as a konditorei showcasing stunning cakes.
The konditorei opened doors on March 1, 2020, only two weeks before the full lockdown in San Francisco. And yet, Ha never flipped off the ovens, baking relentlessly through the holidays to bring mini stollen and good cheer, and winning the award for bakery of the year in Eater SF. Today, Hahdough still draws fans large and small for Black Forest cake with chocolate and cherries, Bienenstich or beesting cake, and herrentorte or gentleman’s cake. Although the littlest customers often demand the Berliner baby doughnuts stuffed with jam or chewy pretzels.
